The RSF, a side in Sudan's civil war, has captured El Fasher after a seige that lasted over a year. It descends from groups (Janjaweed) who committed the Darfur genocide, and it remains an especially brutal forceeven by regional standards. The RSF is funded by the UAE, Chad, and Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar. Note how this footage comes from the RSF fighters themselves.

There is no equivalence between the two sides in Sudan's civil war. The military dictatorship (SAF) has committed war crimes, but the RSF's violence is on a completely diferent level. Policies aimed towards each side should reflect this difference.

Please consider contacting to your congressperson/MP about this, and ask for sanctions on the UAE.

Accountability via the international community is an illusion that barely influences western pop culture. It wouldn't influence the UAE (in the way you are imagining). It certainly would have zero impact on those being decimated by the RSF in Sudan.

The only thing that's effective (millitary support of Sudan's army) is already being attempted by Egypt, Turkey, and some other countries.

The conflict in Sudan has been ongoing for like 70 years. It hasn't been overlooked, the international community optics on it has led to the country being split up. 

So why would a country need to be sanctioned for supporting one side over the other? The idea of sanctions is basically saying this other side should win. So you'd get sanctions by countries that support the other side, which is basically the same form of support for a side in a conflict.

I don't think we should put UAE under sanctions, because that would have serious economical ramifications for anyone trading energy with them, and primarily would help other adversaries like Russia and Iran.


A better course of action is to simply form a coalition that will interdict any movement between Sudan and the UAE and Iran, and also strike at terrorist targets.


The effect of this, if done somewhat competently, is that the war will pretty much freeze for a while.

So I've worked with a bunch of charities and they have been working in Sudan and other local crisis areas for years. The problem is Sudan is old news as news cycles go. It's been on our air waves and we collectively moved on after the last crisis was effectively pushed through western media as solved. It wasn't. And the problems got worse. 

Also just how our media rushed to protect Israel, they also rushed to move on from Sudan to effectively appease our allies. We seem to always be complicit in a lot of shit that happens in that part of the world.

The key is in your statement: there are no journalists there. This means it just doesn't get the same amount of reporting as say a quasi Western country like Israel whereby journalists can come in and stay, visit and live comfortably. It was top news for many years, at least in Canada. Only someone new to adulthood will have missed the years of news coverage, the debates in government and news stories addressing the thousands of traumatized Canadian vets who were sent to help.

Hello! thank you for your prayers man. It’s a common misconception that the war in Sudan is a civil war and it’s the furthest from that. The actual truth is that the conflict involves the Armed Forces led by Abdel fattah Burhan (military) and the Rapid support forces/paramilitary (RSF) led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (aka Hemedti) and also broadly known by the name of Janjaweed. These entities were one in the past but over time, disagreed and Hemedti decided to carry out a coup and flip over to take control of Sudan. The conflict began in Khartoum the capital which has led to the internal displacement of the majority of its citizens due the violence inflicted by the RSF during the process. They started looting houses, threatening families, missiles, RPGs, raping men/women/children alike. The tricky part is that the RSF is funded by the UAE which has been supplied with resources including tanks, guns/rifles and all types of war equipment you could think of that traced back to the UAE. Although the UAE have denied these accusations when the international court raised these allegations, reports from these sources have been reported by many citizens. The UAE has no goldmines yet it’s one of the biggest markets for gold in the world. Hemedti was involved in the gold business and has been reported to sell gold to the UAE. 
So after the internal displacement, people travelled to other states but as the war expanded, more regions were raided by RSF soldiers who terrorized more citizens and forced people to flee out the Sudan entirely. and now, Sudan is considered the largest displacement t crisis in the world and the stats that are actually available don’t even explain the reality of the situation as most people dismiss this war as a civil war and “these people are just animals)

Do you read Arabic? There's a new book, *Janjaweed wa Hakoura* by Sudanese historian Abdullahi Ibrahim that goes into the reasons for the rise of the Janjaweed, I would recommend reading those sections.

This war is in many ways, an extension of the civil war in Darfur (but with the Janjaweed now against the Sudanese government v.s. defending it), so I recommend Alex de Waal's book on that war as well, as it really helps contextualize the material and historical factors that led to the RSF's current ethnonationalist insurgency.
